Since I started the blog just two weeks ago, I figured it would be useful to share some basic information about hearing loss.
About 36 million people have hearing loss, and approximately 30% of those people wear hearing instruments. Signs and symptoms of hearing loss include difficulty in noisy places, hearing from a distance, asking people to repeat, saying people “mumble”, and having difficulty following conversations.
Many people experience ringing or buzzing in their ears or head, which may or may not be a sign of hearing loss but should be evaluated.
A simple handout detailing symptoms and causes of hearing loss, as well as prevention was published by the American Academy of Audiology. Please share this with anyone you feel would find it useful. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to call or email our office.
