Wondering what happens during a hearing test? At Comprehensive Hearing Solutions, your hearing evaluation is a 90-minute appointment focused on understanding your hearing, your everyday communication needs, and your next steps. You’ll have time to share your concerns, complete your evaluation, and talk through the results. This guide explains how to prepare and what to expect at our office, from your first conversation through your recommendations.
Please allow 90 minutes for your hearing evaluation. The final 30 minutes are reserved for reviewing your results and discussing recommendations. Before your visit, think about the situations where hearing feels most difficult and write down any questions you want to ask. Bringing a few specific examples can help you explain what you’ve noticed, even if you’re unsure how to describe your hearing concerns.
You can complete your intake forms online before your appointment. If paper forms are more convenient, please arrive 20 minutes early to complete them at our office. The forms give us a starting point for discussing your hearing and medical history. If you have questions about completing them or preparing for your visit, contact our office so we can help you get ready.
We encourage you to bring a family member or loved one. It’s optional, but they can share observations about your hearing and help you discuss your communication goals. For example, they might notice when you miss parts of a conversation or ask for something to be repeated. Having someone with you can also be helpful when you review your results and talk about the recommendations afterward.
We are out of network with all insurance plans, but we can submit a claim as a courtesy. Please bring your health insurance card if you’d like us to do so. Claim submission does not guarantee reimbursement. If you have questions about your out-of-network benefits, contact your insurance plan before the appointment. You can also contact our office with questions about the visit so you know what to expect before you arrive.
We’ll begin by discussing your hearing concerns, hearing and medical history, and the situations where communication feels difficult. Think about conversations at home, group gatherings, or places with background noise. Together, we’ll identify what you want to hear more clearly and the goals that matter most to you. If you bring a loved one, their observations can help guide that conversation. For more preparation ideas, see the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s questions to expect at an audiology appointment.
We’ll examine your ears and evaluate your hearing, including how well you understand speech in background noise. We’ll explain each step along the way so you know what to expect and how to respond. You can ask us to clarify the instructions whenever you need to. Your experience in everyday conversations is an important part of the discussion, alongside the test results. The final 30 minutes of your appointment are reserved for reviewing your results and discussing what they mean for your everyday hearing. We’ll connect the findings to your concerns and communication goals, explain our recommendations, and outline your next steps. When appropriate, this conversation can include hearing aid options. This is also a good time to revisit the questions you brought with you. Our goal is to help you leave with a clearer understanding of your hearing and the recommendations discussed during your visit.
