PROFESSIONAL EAR CLEANING
Blocked ears or muffled hearing? Dr. Erin Rushing provides professional earwax removal in Houma, LA, beginning with a careful look inside your ears and a removal method suited to your needs.
Earwax is a normal part of healthy ears. When it builds up and blocks the ear canal, you may notice fullness, itching, or a change in hearing. An ear examination helps determine whether wax is contributing to your symptoms.
If your hearing aids sound quieter or begin to whistle, earwax may be one factor. Dr. Rushing can check your ear canals and help determine whether you need earwax removal, hearing aid care, or a hearing evaluation.
Earwax removal starts with understanding your symptoms and examining your ears. At Comprehensive Hearing Solutions, video otoscopy allows us to view the ear canal and assess the buildup before choosing a method.
Care is provided by Dr. Erin Rushing, an audiologist in Houma. If your hearing concerns continue after wax is removed, she can explain whether a comprehensive hearing evaluation or another next step would be appropriate.
For more information, read the American Academy of Audiology’s guide to earwax blockage.
Your visit focuses on finding out whether wax is the problem, choosing appropriate care, and explaining what comes next.
We discuss what you have noticed and inspect your ear canals. Video otoscopy helps us assess the location and amount of wax and whether removal is appropriate.
Depending on your ear anatomy and history, removal may involve specialized manual tools or low-pressure irrigation. The method is selected for your situation.
We recheck your ears after removal and discuss any remaining symptoms. If wax was contributing to muffled hearing, removal may help; persistent concerns may need further assessment.
It may help when a wax blockage is contributing to muffled hearing. Other causes of hearing difficulty can remain after removal, so we will discuss further assessment when needed.
There is no single schedule for everyone. Dr. Rushing can recommend follow-up based on your buildup, symptoms, and ear health.
We use specialized manual tools or low-pressure irrigation according to your ear anatomy and history. Not every method is appropriate for every ear.
Avoid inserting cotton swabs or other objects into your ear canals. Call us before using drops so we can advise you on preparation.
You do not need to know whether earwax is causing the problem before reaching out. Tell us what you are experiencing, and we will help you choose the right appointment.
